Hello,

I'm having the following problem!

If I export my bike training in TCX format with Run.GPS app (v3.2.1_4488) for use in Garmin Connect, and then wants to import TCX file on Garmin Connect, I get an error message each time.

Is there still a problem with importing exported TCX files from Run.GPS software app?

are exported TCX files from Run.GPS not compatible with Garmin Connect?

Is there an solution or can you solve this problem?

Regards

Awesome! Thanks

To be sure that it works with all services, we'll omit the <Notes/> tag if no training title and no training description is present :-)

Okay, thanks Admin. Can you please test it after the changes are made with Garmin Connect and Strava as these are the sites where it is a problem. I tested myself and it came up as a bad file error when the <note/> tag was still present.

I'm not trying to be difficult, I am trying to help with the solution. Thanks

The <Notes/> tag is just an abbreviation of <Notes></Notes> (an empty Notes tag). It is correct.

But we'll provide a fix for the missing <xml> header today!

Yes, wodge80, I know. I tried with strava. But the essence is: even if they are the "big" ones they do not need to be the "correct" ones. As far as I know the developers of Run.GPS and runalyze I tend to believe that they implemented the correct definitions. If more runners would challenge the "big" ones instead of letting them go with their bad developed software (which is only succesful because of big marketing budgets) some things could change...(wow, what a political statement ;-)

Dolic: try importing the same tcx file from Run.GPS into other popular apps like Garmin Connect, Endomondo or Strava and see if you are successful there?

TCX works with Runalyze

Just for the record: using the import feature from runalyze (https://runalyze.com/index.php) the run.GPS TCX can be imported without any trouble.

Hello Admin,

I understand about the <notes> tag but I have not seen it in any other TCX files and it appears to cause a problem with importing into other sites (including Garmin) along with the missing ?xml version declaration line. If the declaration is missing and the <notes/> tag is present the TCX file does not import successfully. The <notes/> tag has a / in it where perhaps it shouldn't and there is no preceeding <notes> tag with it.

Also missing is a <Folders> tag group but this does not seem to affect the import into Strava.

A full list of tags which appear to work as exported from Strava and Garmin Connect are below. Maybe try to match this format to get a compatible TCX output?:

@wodge80: Thanks for your analysis of the files!

1. The <Notes> tag is valid, it is defined in http://www8.garmin.com/
xmlschemas/TrainingCenterDatabasev2.xsd

2. The missing XML declaration is probably the reason for the import problems. If you just add this line, it should work.

>> We'll add an xml declaration for TCX files in the next release.
