FRWD B100 (http://www.frwd.fi/index.php?46&cmsshow=66;news)

Hello,

First post from me. I'm right now testing the Run.GPS software and I like it as a complement to my FRWD B600.
Cerf wrote a comment about the FRWD products and I can give you some hints what is possible.

It is a GPS-logger with a normal HRM belt (you can for example use Polar) and it has a BT interface.
The price starts at 179 Euro so if you already own a GPS it is quite pricey.
It has software to Symbian phones (S60) which can show information about your performance including HRM and PC but not Pocket PC. I have not checked what kind of protocol it is using to include live HRM information but you can import it to your pc and export it as text. Below is a short example.
time(s) N/S lat E/W long Alt(m) Speed Dist HR Temp mbar
1 6508,145 2515,4782 20,1 19 4 146 14,8 1032
2 6508,146 2515,4788 20,1 19,1 6 147 14,8 1032,3
3 6508,1468 2515,4793 20,1 19,3 7 148 14,8 1032,7
4 6508,1478 2515,48 20,1 19,7 9 149 14,8 1031,7
5 6508,1491 2515,4811 20,1 20,2 12 149 14,8 1032,3
6 6508,1512 2515,4831 20,1 20,9 16 150 14,8 1031,8
7 6508,154 2515,486 20,1 21,6 21 150 14,8 1031,5
8 6508,1573 2515,4893 20,2 22,3 28 151 14,8 1032,6
9 6508,1609 2515,4929 20,3 22,8 35 152 14,8 1032,4
10 6508,1645 2515,4968 20,3 23,2 43 152 14,8 1031,9

Now my question, would it be possible to import this? Is it possible to get the data format used with GPS-Sports.net?

Oregon Scientific Heart Rate Logger

We just bought one of those devices from Oregon Scientific (http://www.oregonscientific.de/prod_herzfrequenzdata-logger.htm, 30 EUR) and I must say it's a good product. It's very small and can be attached directly to a HRM belt. It had no problem communicating with a very lowcost belt (20 EUR for belt and HRM watch). You can record up to 30 hours. Every 2 seconds a sample is taken.

The data format is not yet compatible with GPS-Sport.net but we will soon provide an import for Oregon Scientific .csv files.

Know all about pda's

Hi, indeed the hrm would be the icing on the cake for RUN.gps

But they need to keep it simple because not every runner is a pc expert.
I am currently working to import a new pda phone with wifi and gps build in . (Boxu T32)
the current T32's only have BT no wifi and gps. Whe are currently working on a new model.

A simple way to work with a HRM would be with a armbelt with youre pda inside and a sensor connected to the pda.
this eliminates the need for BT and therfore the need for power.
The censor can easely be implemented in the armbelt.

Just a idea......
When the T32 is ready i will give you guys a sign. :)

@maji: That product looks very interesting. I just ordered one. I'll tell you if it works.

@tiger: Thanks for the info. Hopefully they will change their policy and provide a SDK. If the protocol isn't too complicated one might do without an SDK too.

email from Daniel Meermann [daniel.meermann@blatand.de]
Deutsche Telekom and Barmer Ersatzkasse just announced some of our products at CeBIT (incl. our Bluetooth Heart Monitor with integrated GPS):

Q: Is it available? A: Our partners will officially announce the availability and pricing this month.
Q: What is the price? A: see above.
Q: Would it work with run.gps? I don't think so as we don't provide SDKs to independent software developers yet.

Best regards,
Daniel

What about the Heart Rate Logger from Oregon Scientific?

I found a heart rate logger from Oregon Scientific that looks quite interesting:
SmartSync Heart Rate Logger records workout data from any 5.3kHz heart rate monitor chest belt and downloads information onto PC via USB connection.
See http://www2.oregonscientific.com/shop/product.asp?cid=3&scid=9&pid=675
or in German http://www.oregonscientific.de/prod_herzfrequenzdata-logger.htm
At amazon.com the lowest price is $10 http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Rate-Logger-with-Download/dp/B000HQYG66/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1202793631&sr=8-11
(unfortunately they don't ship to Europe, and the lowest price in Eurpoe seem to be around 29EUR).

Could these HRM files also be used with run.GPS?

Any update about the availability of the Blatand belt

Does anyone have any new information about the blatand belt and its' availability?

Hi folks, there is http://www.frwd.fi/index.php?30 looks like it is using BT to communicate with the PC? Is-it the same with the belt? There might be an option here.

Nice one Tom :)

Works fine for me on using old HRM files, e.g. http://www.gps-sport.net/detail.jsp?trainingID=3781
and for new ones: http://www.gps-sport.net/detail.jsp?trainingID=6814 (this second one is very complicated because I merged to Polar HRM files together after a change of bicycle due to mechanical problems)

I'll try a few more when I get a chance

FYI, I am using a Polar 625x (I have 3 years of data from it!)

Thanks for the clarification Tom. I do recall reading about ANT protocol somewhere.
