I have just changed from a HTC Diamond to a Touch HD and I find that RUNGPS works flawlessly, never get a problem with GPS, instant fix...actually think its better than the Diamond was.

I have WM6.5 running TF3D2.5 Leo Dutty's R5 rom

GPS is known to have an error of about 30m (depending on the settings). Also - as GPS require line of sight for locking signals - they are known to be highly inaccurate in high rise areas.

I have perpetual problem trying to get a lock while mountain biking due to the trees! sigh.......

HTC Touch HD Button Lock

Hi

I had this problem with my touch HD. You can actually download an install a programme called AE buttons that will allow you to lock the volume and other buttons on your phone. I think it works for the home buttons as well. I use it and it works really well. Make sure you install it on your phone memory (rather than card)and when you use the phone for making calls it upsets the programme and you need to turn your phone off and on to make it work again. You can download it from:

Hope this helps.

Touch HD works fine with GPS!

I just use the standard settings for my HTC Touch HD and GPS. It works just fine if you prepare correctly ;).
At least 15 minutes before I go out jogging I start Run.GPS an let it soak up all the satellites (just let it be powered on with Run.GPS on my table). After this the route is quite good (just look at my routes).

I figured out that if I sometimes just go out and start jogging, the reception doesn't work all the time. I dont't get just one accurate (if one at all) position. Technically it seems to be more difficult for the device to get the first position while moving.

So just try to get a stable reception at home and look i this works.

best regards
Rolf

P.S.: Nevertheless I didn't figure out how to lock the whole screen including the buttons, so I have to be careful in handling the HTC while jogging.

Hi Ian,
When zooming in a bit at your recordings, I don't think they are all that accurate to be honest.. for instance the tracks are crossing buildings on a few occasions. Don't tell us you're Spiderman ;) What GPS settings have you used?

Hi,
I've tried your exact settings, wobu2000, and this was the result:

So unfortunately it has not been an improvement, the track is really bad.. I don't really know what to try next :( I don't think that flashing radio ROM will do much, besides I'm hesistant to install any unofficial patches.

Hello tarmac,
yes indeed, you have to use manually managed windows in RunGPS. The GPS menue in Windows mobile dont matters.
Then Your Touch HD normally will find up to 16 Satelites, the dilution will be 1.0 or sometimes less. Take a look at one of my last trainings for example.
If this dont work, you can flash your Radio-rom like I did. How to do, you will find on website of xda-developers.
greetings

Thanks for your suggestion, wobu2000. I'm going to try it, but to make sure I'm doing the right thing: do you mean changing these settings within RunGPS? That means in the GPS settings menu NOT ticking the "Windows managed" box and then manually selecting the values you mention?
Because in Windows you can't change the baudrate, it automatically sets it back to 4800.
Thanks again
