Thanks. I'll try going to 6.1 - I've avoided it not wanting to introduce new wrinkles to a stable phone. Are you downloading the new 6.1 from the HYC site, or AT&T (not sure where you are). I believe since AT&T is my carrier, I have to go through their www site for the upgrade.

Didn't you say in your prior post that you are seeing faster drain under 6.1? Yet you mention improved radio?

I am familiar with xda-developers.org and have used many of their tips (Kaiser Tweak) etc to improve overall performance of the Tilt. Great product - I just now want to get it to where I can use it for training.

Sadly out of warranty. I was one of the first buyers of the Tilt when it came out via AT&T.

Thanks
Gary

Gary,

I'd try upgrading to WM6.1 not necessarily for 6.1, but it should also include a new radio rom which is the software running the GPS and radios which are most likely the cause of battery drain. You might also try looking on the forums at xda-developers.org. I'm using the internal GPS, bluetooth and phone on. If all else fails exchange it, is it still under warranty?

Ok - extremely frustrated user! To answer your question, I am using the stock ROM and WM 6 - not 6.1. For my past two runs, I have started out with a fully charged battery from the wall charger, turned off ALL functions on the phone (ie: no data connection) except Bluetooth for the external GPS and also allowing the phone to still operate in case I receive an emergency call.....and I am only getting about an hour of use before the phone is virtually dead.

At this rate, my goals for adopting this software to manage my long runs, training, etc are virtually mute.

This software is simply amazing. It does everything I want it to, but without a better hardware platform.......

I may do some experimental runs using a few other Windows-based devices (ie: HTC 8525) and also an Windows-based PDA - both with Bluetooth, just to see what kind of battery life I get there.

Extremely frustrating, especially when I hear from others of you on this forum that you are getting 2 and 3 hour uses out of your devices successfully.

I am using an external GPS since the internal GPS on the Tilt seems to drain the batter extremely fast (ie: within 30 minutes).

If anyone has any thoughts, I'm welcome to them.

For now, very frustrated user of Run.GPS - not due to the software, just hardware.

I've been using my tilt with the internal GPS going on hour long rides only using about 20% of my battery. Are you using the stock ROM? I have been, but just upgraded to WM6.1 via the HTC site. I have been noticing a quicker battery drain with 6.1 but haven't used it much with Run.GPS yet so I'll let you know.

As posted in a separate post, I've switched to an external GPS unit to improve battery life on my Tilt. With the internal GPS turned on, I was only getting 20-30 minutes of running Run.GPS with a full battery - awful!

With an external GPS, I am also draining the batter very quickly, with the entire battery almost gone in about an hour using an external Bluetooth unit.

Question here for the board -- anyone have any experiences with the Tilt and what they see with battery drain?

The Tilt is almost a year old. I have the bandwidth permanently switched to the EDGE data network to save on battery drain, since I quickly saw that 3G was a bandwidth consumer. While running Run.GPS, my phone is also checking email in the background (Outlook over Activesync), other than that, it's idle.

Just wondering what others are seeing here. I'll keep experimenting.
