Google gadget not working now

I don't know when this happened, but my google gadget is now showing someone else's position (in Germany). Has anything changed that would affect this??

UPDATE - I just checked Tom's blogger page and my Google gadget is showing his WhereAmI position instead of my own.

Too cool. If you guys are ever in the US, specifically north of Atlanta, GA, beers are on me!

The only thing left to do is figure out how to increase the width of my sidebar to eliminate the horizontal scrolling of the map. I think I can do that in the template HTML.

Thanks again!

UPDATE: Done. In the template HTML for the 'minima' template, increased the sidebar wrapper width from 220px to 320px, and increased the main wrapper width accordingly from 660px to 760px. Now no scroll bar.

Yes right ... that's because blogger.com does not set the parameters correctly. Instead of replacing the parameters it just adds additional ones. This works perfectly in the Google Gadgets directory - it's a problem of Blogger.com.

Example of iframe URL:

http://www.gps-sport.net/embedWhereAmIMapOnly.jsp?
userName=robert&width=310&height=194&mapType=NORMAL&zoom=13&
container=blogger&mid=1&v=4089b6d9304bad47b15ea4f12a71e&lang=de&
country=ALL&view=default&up_username=Tom&up_mapWidth=100&
up_mapHeight=100&up_mapType=HYBRID&up_mapZoom=13&mid=1&
parent=http%3A%2F%2Frungps.blogspot.com%2F

Instead of replacing "userName", as defined in the XML Gadget description file, Blogger.com adds a parameter "up_username". This is extremely stupid.

Solution: the iframe script first looks for the added parameters and uses those if present.

Please check ... seems to work now. Width and height can now be changed too.

Wow. You guys are amazing! My iGoogle page now has the WhereAmI gadget with my Run.GPS data.

Adding the gadget to my blog works, but it won't take the field changes that I specify. Even though I changed the username, map type and zoom, saved it - it still shows Robert's data:

It did accept the title change, though - I changed that from "Where Am I" to "Where's Spencer"

Google Gadget

Creating Google Gadgets from iframes is actually very simple.

I just converted the "Where am I" plugin into a Google Gadget.

Gadget URL: http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/102946099991970961282/whereAmIGadget.xml
Publish on web site: http://www.gmodules.com/ig/creator?synd=open&hl=en&url=http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/102946099991970961282/whereAmIGadget.xml
Add to iGoogle: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/102946099991970961282/whereAmIGadget.xml
Blogger.com demo: http://rungps.blogspot.com/

(this is only BETA so far but it should already work)

Thanks for the quick response, Tom. A 'Google Gadget' would certainly be the slick solution, but I understand that you guys are pretty busy with the software itself.

Maybe one of your users could lend a hand and adapt the code for you - I have run across some tutorials which render iframes in a Google Gadget, but they are targeted at users who have coding experience in Ajax or similar languages.

As far as I know it's not possible to use any HTML code in the sidebar. The code generated by the "embed" function contains a <iframe> tag which is not accepted by the sidebar.

Only possible solution would be to create a "Google Gadget" ... but here, some development will be required. We'll probably do this but I can't tell you when.

Although I am relatively computer-literate, I know very little about HTML. Using the 'embed' command, I can copy and paste the HTML into a website easy enough, but I would like to have an embedded WhereAmI map in the sidebar of my blog on blogger.com. I am using the 'Edit Template HTML' customization, but I keep getting XML errors.

Can anyone provide any addtional formatting hints that would allow me to do this?

EDIT: To be specific, I would like to embed the GPS-Sport data in the sidebar so that it is always there. Embedding the HTML in a new post works, but it eventually gets pushed off the page.
