...more testing
I made more testing with Run.GPS Traininer and HTC GPS Tool. I found better setups: COM4 and baudrate 57600
It gives more stabile GPS-signal than 4800. Maybe it will work also with older radios. Just test it and report your results!
I updated my Diamond's Radio to v1.00.25.05. Working combination is now COM 4 and Baudrate 4800.
(Windows managed GPS still gives altitude 0 meters.)
I had the same problem with my Diamond, too, followed Spaca's hint and I got altitudes. But they seem strange. According to Google, my street should be at about 30m. But Run.GPS shows 80m. When I go up to my flat, which is on the 2nd floor (so, appr. 7-8m higher), the program tells me, I am at 97m. Does anybody know why?
Thank you for your answer. I made more testing and found solution! Problem was Windows Managed GPS, it finds satellites but don't collect any altitude information. I unchecked it and selected COM4 and baudrate 19200. Now I can see altitude and GPS finds satellites much faster. I think signal is better too.
Some questions:
- do you use Windows managed GPS or serial (COM) ports?
(if the latter is the case, please try http://www.rungps.net/wiki/SerialTestToolEN and send the protocol file to info[at]esymetric.de)
- does altitude appear in other programs?
- did you try leaving the device lying on the ground in an open space to give it the chance to gather all satellite information for a stable 3D fix?
We'll surely get this fixed but maybe only when we get hold of one of these devices.
