Measuring step length ... that's really an interesting thought. First think we'll do is add field distance/step to our data - for both Android and iOS as a preparation.
1) most of the time
2) but then in this way with the apple watch (but because the lack of GPS):
Apple has a watch sports-app that counts steps and the distance you run so that you can calculate the distance(meters)/step. It works this as follows: run one time with both the watch and the iPhone and this calculation / ratio meters/step is stored.
So, maybe you're also able to do such a calculation and create a standalone app mode !?
We are using a software framework that does not offer support for Watch OS 2 yet, so we'll have to wait.
How would you like to use the Apple watch? As a remote control for Run.GPS?
We're currently working on a new release for Android Wear, which will support 2 or maybe three modes:
1) As a remote control / display for Run.GPS
2) As a standalone app for devices that have GPS (e.g. Sony Smartwatch 3)
3) MAYBE a special mode for indoor swimming that detects swimming lanes using the built-in g sensor *)
*) don't know if that would be very useful since the Smartwatch 3 does have IP68 certification but is not really intended for swimming

What are your considerations? I guess that the only thing that is holding you back is the amount of Apple users that use RunGPS!? Is it worth the effort? Could this could boost the RunGPS Apple community!?
Maybe you should take a poll on this topic?
(By the way: one of the cool things is that the Apple Watch heart rate meter seems to be quit precisely during running. So no HR chest strap anymore.)
