Comparing distances measured

Hi Karelillo,

another option would be to use something like MapMyRun and manually map the track there. It uses GoogleMaps or something similar so not sure how acurate it will be, but it would allow you to draw the track and compare the total to the ones you measured. Just a thought as I used this to check my own run distance with the one measured by RunGPS.

Hi Karelillo,

What Run.GPS measures is correct and what your bike computer measures is probably wrong. You can prove this by
- checking if the track points are more or less in the right spot
- exporting the track as GPX and measuring the distance with another software or service (e.g. "Trackmaker" or www.gpsies.com)

GPS is usually more accurate then bike computers because the wheel measurement is pretty erratic (errors accumulate, e.g. due to varying pneu pressure).

distance measurement errors

I continue having distance measurement problem with this software. I run it on a Samsung Galaxy S (Gingerbread 2.3.3) and it always measures at least a 3% less than my bike computer. The last test I have made was using a Bluetooth Sirf III gps antenna and although I have pretty low DOP values my bike computer registered 37.35 km and the software 35.61 km.( more than 4%). As you see is not a DOP value issue because the max I got today is 1.4

Here there is the link of my last training and almost have the same behavior of the software.

Continue waiting for a solution from run.gps. Otherwise we should change to endomondo or any other software available for android.

Tried new build

Hi,

I have similar experiences with previous build that reboot the phone quite often. I tried the new testbuilds (dates 12/7 and 13/7). With the older versions (2.3.9.c etc.) my desire with custom rom would reboot every 2 minutes or so.

Now it has been running for almost half an hour without reboots. I'll test during my drive home and my evening run tonight to see if it sticks.

If so, please don't change anything in that part of the code back again :).

edit1- Still no reboots, running in about an hour or so. Will post my findings afterwards.

no plausible trainings possible

I´m totally frustrated:
I do not get plausible trainings records at all with android 2.3.4 and build 2.3.9d because of high dop values: http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_628713
@ admin:
Does build 2.3.9i fix this bug? If not, when will an update be provided?
@ orodiger
Thx for your reflections, which unfortunately won´t help, because the cause for this bug in my view is an inappropriate adjustement of the provided gps signal by run-gps,

Possible manual fix for GPS issues?

@wak

I recently bought a new phone, the HTC Sensation and also had a bad run with DOP values being high using the phone the 1st time. See run below

BAD: http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_619613

I then applied a manual workaround I found on the web and I think it helped me. See the run and the steps I applied below

GOOD: http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_623385

Take your SIM out of the Nexus One
Power on the device
Turn WiFi on
Turn GPS on
Open application: GPS Status
Go into its Settings menu
Click on GPS and Sensors
Click Manage A-GPS state
Click Reset
Click Manage A-GPS state again
Click Download
Now put your phone on a stable, straight surface in order to enable the phone to get a lock. This time, you’ll see your phone get the lock back way faster than before.
With that done, now it’s time to put your SIM back in and use the network to secure a quick GPS fix as well.

Note: On my version of GPS Status the ‘Manage A-GPS state’ was under Settings option on your phone -> Tools

DOP still unusually high

my training http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_626494 was rated not plausible. i assume this is because of high dop. build 2.3.9d obviously does not resolve the gps problem with Android 2.3

HTC HD2 with custom Android ROM Rafdroid

I installed this new built depsite usually not having any problems with high DOP values as the HTC HD2 has a very good GPS system in my view. Thought I just give the latest and greatest RunGPS a try. However, today something odd happened. Look at the training below you can see that twice I seemed to 'loose' GPS signal and then got high DOP values.

http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/running_601137

I think in both cases some notification happened on the phone, one was an email and the other a voicemail. Did others experience the same with notifications and/or did they also have sporadic high DOP values using the latest version?

I thought this was caused by bad custom rom on my htc desire (rcmix 2.0), but other seems also have this issue too. I managed to get over it by using endomondo tracker in same time with run.gps tracking, in that way run.gps also tracks just fine. So clearly endomondo does something that keeps gps fix good (also on run.gps), so maybe you could overlook you code if gps handling is done somehow funny?

thanks you very much for your prompt reaction admin. I will install the new release to test it.
