Yes, "Luftlinie" means Beeline in english. And from my point of view it really seems that Route Planner tries to apply the route to known roads and pathways. Just give it a try and use Beeline for some meters and switch back to Mountainbike. Perhaps this will help you. But I also would appreciate to get more details about the routing functions. Perhaps admins may help here ;-) !!
Thanks putche. I'll try that workaround. Does "Luftlinie" = "the Beeline" option in English? From your and horstling's comments does it mean that Route Planner tries to apply the route to known roads and pathways? If so, that it not helpful for mountain biking as many of the routes are unmarked singletracks around where I live.
From my point of view the problem occurs due to the fact that the road or way is "not complete" and therfore creates another route. The way I solve this issue is to change to "Luftlinie" and plan for some meters with this option. The I change back to bicycle, mountainbike or whatever.....

The same Problem appears to me. I helped myself by thaking each point with my Mouse and putting them point for Point on the wanted trail. This is working with routes you know well, but if you are not common to the environment, Route planner will give you many unnessesary Miles to do.
I tryed everything to solve that Problem, but it seems to be a Bug in the Software.
Often when creating a route, the route planner will start inserting multiple arbitrary points and cause the route to suddenly zig-zag. I've noticed that this happens most when creating large routes - well for me any way.
I've tried adding the points at different zoom levels, moving the last point slightly but it makes no difference. The next point will suddenly add 3-4 other points in between. Sometime those unwanted points follow a nearby road and other times they seem completely random and cause a large zig-zag in the route.
Is it something I'm doing wrong or is this a bug? Anybody else experiencing this behaviour?
