Why does Run.GPS calculate calories so differently for the same ride depending upon the sport (=type of bike? )used?

For example, for my ride today (http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/local-hill-repeats-on-Mtb_218974), Run.GPS calculates KCal as:

Cycle= 696
Mountainbiking= 1013
Race biking= 759

I don't get it. Its the same course. In fact, the correct answer is some where near what my tried and tested Polar HR monitor calculates = 1071 KCal (the bike is actually a mtb frame, with fixed suspension running touring/off-road tyres, on the road).

This is the same sport/course, but calculated on different types of bicycles. Is the software assuming a standard weight/drag for the bicycle type? If so what are these assumptions and why is 'cycling' ('normal' heavy road/touring/shopping bikes with high drag?) less than 'race-biking' (light/fast low drag).

I've requested this before. It seems to me the only way around this is to have the user enter the weight of the bike, and preferably, some sort estimated drag coefficent for wind/rolling resistance (type/width/pressure of tyre makes a huge difference to drag).
