g-sensor in phone not meant for that purpose
well, the HxM contains a 3 axis g-sensor and also contain a calculator of the running cadence, speed, distance and heartrate.
the g-sensor in phone is just there to detect one position of the phone.
so currently rungps "just" retrieved the calculated speed, distance and heartrate from the HxM, so it is not doing any calculation at such.
using the phone g-sensor will mean first to study if the sensor of the phone is usable in this application (how reliable/precise is the 3-axis acceleration measured by the phone) and then make the algorithm to do the calculation of speed/distance/cadence and furthermore the g-sensor capabilities will vary from phone to phone, so practically it does not look feasible.
to use the G-sensor speed and distance you must have a Zephyr HxM bluetooth heartmonitor, the HxM also monitors speed, cadence and distance while running or walking.
