I second the request for the ability to add an altitude smoothing buffer - that may fix (or improve) my intermittently working total ascent/descent issue.
Also, when you mentioned about how the topographic altitude is more accurate, it made me think that it would be nice to have a way to toggle between using topographic altitude and gps altitude to calculate upper/lower thresholds and total ascent/descent. That may be a good indicator of just how accurate a users GPS is at reading altitude.
this is probably a good idea. I think we will add the ability to change
- the size of the altitude smooting buffer (same as speed buffer)
- the ascent/descent threshold
This would allow somebody with a good GPS but small mountains to also get ascent/descent values :-)
The best thing would be to have topographic altitude values - but that's only possible on the portal. The size of these data for the entire planet is about 40 GB.
thanks to answer me on this point.
So my mountains are not so big and my level of moutainbike not enough :p
Do you think it will possible in a future release to could change the smoothing for altitude on the internet portal and on Run.GPS, like the buffer of the GPS in options ?
Regards
the reason for this is that the ascent/descent passes strong filters which filter out any small changes in altitude. This is so because GPS altitude is pretty inaccurate - so it's feasible to get correct values only when you're in a mountain area with altitude differences > 200 m. Sorry, but any other way Run.GPS would just lie ...
Hi,
I don't find in the help pdf or in this forum the solution of my problem.
When I use Run.GPS, the Ascent & Descent are not real, you can see here :
http://www.gps-sport.net/trainings/2008-04-20-Aramon_16967
It's write near +250/-250 meters, but the real is near +550/-550.
If I download the gpx and import it in a gpx analyser I can see the real Ascent/Descent.
Where can I change the smoothing for altitude ?
Thanks in advance.
