| Description: | Ironically today I received my new indoor trainer (just in time for the REALLY bad weather), but I just couldnt resist throwing some knoblies on Zip and going for a play in the snow. We have had about a total of 15 cm here and -unlike most of the time in UK- it has not melted. Last night it fell to -7oC and only just made it to 0oC today.
On the lanes its just packed snow which is pretty easy to ride on, but things get tricky on busier roads where its been gritted, melted in the wheel tracks and then re-frozen. Some places are just sheer ice and very dangerous. Off road on top of Walton Hill it was hard yakka getting traction through the fluffy stuff, but just feasible where there were footprints. Unlike normal MTB descending, where its best to keep your weight back, in the unpacked snow I found it necessary to keep an equal weight distribution otherwise the front end would become too light and wash out. With my body weight over the bars and rubbish brakes, this made for some hair-razing descents. Great fun and very beautiful up top :) |
